Arts & Sciences Collaboration
Arts & Sciences Collaboration- Storytelling
Designed for: Symbio(s)cene
What is Symbio(S)cene?
Symbio(s)cene is a non-profit organization with the vision to contribute to shaping a new mindset that promotes thinking beyond the Anthropocene.
Symbio(s)cene focuses on four strategic objectives:
1. Conducting Transdisciplinary Research
2. Facilitating Knowledge Exchange
3. Activating the General Public
4. Introducing Design Methodologies.
"Be the hero and follow your story"
Storytelling as a methodology in a Transdisciplinary environment.
Design Goals
-
Facilitate communication between scientists and designers
-
Deliver the intelligible vision of a "good life" to the public.
Challenge
-
How does knowledge transfer efficiently among scientists, designers and the public?
Process:
Outcome:
For this project, Technical University Munich (TUM) meets Macromedia University of Applied Sciences to build a communication bridge between diverse disciplines by designing a methodology.
As a result of this collaboration, storytelling as a methodology supports knowledge exchange and co-creation process in a transdisciplinary environment based on design thinking and arts-based methods.
After analyzing our users' goals we decided to change the template to a more dynamic one by using the biomimicry principles. Based on biomimicry principles about patterns, the new template is customized to a wavy pattern which symbolizes the dynamic flow and movement towards the future.
We presented our idea at the "Utopian-thinking" event. To make the process of Hero's Journey more understandable, we decided to create a video by using a hero and illustrating her journey to achieve a utopia as a reward. In this process we use "storyboardthat" to visualize each steps of the story.
What I learned
The experience was equally exciting and spontaneous, and I really enjoyed it. I learned so much more about conducting workshops and how to coordinate with others to plan an event. I am glad I got this opportunity to take such an interactive course. Sustainability is most definitely a field that I am excited to further explore.
At first, I did not think that I would be able to network, or even reach, TUM university students. In this project, I have learned unparalleled skills for networking and reaching out. I will go on to use these communication skills for many years to come.
